Technical Dive Equipment

scuba certified

Divers who are skilled in technical diving will need a wide range of equipment. For instance, backplates used with a harness are made of aluminum, carbon fiber or stainless steel. Diver knives, lights and safety buoys are just a few of the technical gear available. These items will ensure that you are safe and comfortable while diving.

Equipment used by technical divers

Equipment used by technical divers is often more advanced than that used by recreational divers. This equipment includes sophisticated gear that can be used in dangerous conditions and computers that monitor and record their dive data and decompression. Multigas dive computers enable divers to control their decompression and change gas blends while diving. Submersible pressure meters are essential for divers. They allow them to check how much air is left in their cylinders. Dry suits are essential for long-duration dives and provide a layer of insulation to the wearer. Additional equipment include a compass (or a delayed surface marker buoy), a slate and compass. A decompression trapeze can help divers maintain correct depth during in-water decompression stops. You can also use a lift bag to transport the equipment.

Another equipment technical divers use is a full face mask. This covers the diver's nose and mouth as well as his eyes. A safety harness is also essential, as it can be used to lift the diver out of the water. A buddy line and shotline are two other items technical divers might need. A shotline, which is connected to a weight in shot to provide a reference point for a diver's descent, is a line that connects to a shotweight. A buddyline is used to connect two divers in the sea and prevent them from becoming separated. A jonline ties the diver onto a shotline. An underwater marker buoy marks the divers' position to those at the surface.

Equipment used by ice divers

Ice divers use multiple types of equipment for safety reasons. They typically use two first-stage regulators. The diver can switch between them without having to use a second tank. If the first-stage regulator breaks, the diver can just pick up the second-stage regulator and attach it to the working first-stage regulator. Double tanks are used by ice divers to provide redundant air supply and delivery systems.

It is essential that you have support personnel available while ice diving. The safety line attaches to the diver’s harness and serves as a communication device in an emergency. The safety rope can reach 150 feet. Sometimes, the two-person team may have separate lines. The line tenders need to be protected from heat and can have to go into the water in the event that the diver gets separated.

The team must prepare their area and cut a hole through the ice before they can go ice diving. The most commonly used tool to cut the ice is the chainsaw, but it must always be used correctly. The hole should not be too rough to cause damage to the equipment or diver. Many ice divers opt to cut triangle-shaped openings, which offer safer entry and exit.

Equipment used by divers for decompression

Special equipment is used by decompression divers when they're underwater. This equipment includes a multigas dive computer, which tracks decompression requirements and allows the diver to switch between the two types of gases in a cylinder. A submersible pressure gauge is available to show the remaining air in a cylinder. The dry suit provides insulation and protection during long dives.

In addition to a self-contained breathing device, divers also use equipment that connects to a surface support platform. Divers can perform many underwater tasks using this equipment, including adjusting their stop depth or monitoring it. The umbilical supplies oxygen to the diver's head and can also be used to communicate with the other side.

Another important piece of equipment used by decompression divers is the jonline, which is a long line that is used to guide the diver during a search and work session. The lifting bag is another piece of equipment. It is an airtight bag that is attached to a weighted rope and suspended at the bottom. These tools enable the diver to lift heavy items from the bottom and use them as floating objects when they are full. The shot line is used by decompression divers to help them navigate to and from the surface.
