Many ice skating opportunities are available at the UIUC Ice Arena. The synchronized skating team at UIUC is nationally ranked. Their performers have competed at national and world levels. Tickets to the UIUC's spring show are $5 for general seating and $7 if you reserve seating.

University of Illinois Ice Arena

Champaign's University of Illinois Ice Arena, also called the Big Pond is an ice rink. It is owned the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The rink hosts a variety of events, including ice hockey.

Skating opportunities

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign boasts an ice arena which is free to the public. If you're interested in hosting a group event at the rink, there are several steps you should take. First, you need to make a reservation. To do this, visit the RSO Office, located in Room 284 of the Illini Union. When reserving ice time, remember that you'll need to supply a list of participants. Additionally, you will need to arrange to have a supervisor present at the rink for any questions that you might have during the rental period.

Center Ice Cafe

The University of Illinois Ice Arena Center Ice Cafe is now open to the general public. The cafe is situated adjacent to Customer Service Office. The Ice Arena Pro Shop stocks a variety of skating and hockey accessories.


Free skate trainers

The University of Illinois Ice Arena (UIUC) is a rink located in Champaign, Illinois. It is owned by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Throughout the year, the ice arena is open to the public free of charge. The public is welcome to use the rink for their figure skating and skateboarding skills.

Spring Show

The UIUC Ice Arena Spring Show will be held soon. The event will include performances by local skaters and a nationally-ranked synchro skating team. Many of these local skaters have competed on the national as well as international level. The event tickets will cost $5 for general seating, $7 for reserved seating.

Gas leak at UI Ice Arena

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has issued an Illini-Alert following a gas leak at its ice arena. After Ameren Illinois crews and firefighters discovered a gas leak, the building at 406 E. Armory Ave. was evacuated. To prevent contamination, firefighters blocked the sideway leading to the arena. The leak may have come from below the building.
