Famous divers are also known for their commitment to environmental issues. Bill Nye is an example of an environmentalist who became interested in diving after his father accidentally threw Bill Nye overboard. He's now one of the most influential environmentalists in the world and the president of the Ocean Futures Society, a nonprofit marine education organization. Lloyd Bridges is another important diver. He popularized the sport by creating the TV series Sea Hunt from 1957 to 1962.

Tom Cruise is one the most well-known celebrities in the world. He is also a certified scuba diver. He has been a part of many underwater stunts in his career. He even did freediving courses for Mission Impossible. In one scene, Tom held his breath for six minutes!

Kate Hudson

Kate Hudson needed to be certified in scuba diving to be part the film "Fool's Gold". Although initially terrified of diving, she became a certified diver after completing her course. She loves scuba diving now!

Many people are curious about why James Cameron is such a well-known diver. His work as a movie director has made him one of the most prominent people in the globe. Despite his busy schedule, however, he managed to attend Beneath the Sea New York. His busy schedule was due to his involvement with the James Cameron Awards, but his busy schedule also meant that he was also being closely followed by the media. Beneath the Sea management was able to keep his presence low-key, in order not to be publicized.


Zale Perry

Zale Perry is an American scuba diver and writer who has dedicated her life to the sport. Born in Milwaukee she discovered diving as a child. Zale was both a skin diver (scuba diver) and pioneer of scubadiving in the 1950s. Zale was also an early underwater equipment specialist and tester. She was featured on Sports Illustrated's cover in 1955. She was later a scuba instructor, and she began to photograph under water.

Greg Louganis

Greg Louganis, a well-known diver with a unique background in acting and sport, is Greg Louganis. He was a gymnast as a child and then a diver when he was nine. He decided to pursue an acting career after he graduated from the University of California at Irvine. He took acting lessons and began to appear in commercials and plays. He also began acting in television series.

Alexandre Despatie

Alexandre Despatie was born on June 8, 1986 in Canada. He was the first diver in history to win three World Championships simultaneously. His feat earned him a place amongst the best divers around the globe. He is also a broadcaster and anchors the French-language coverage on the Olympic Winter Games.

Mike Nelson is a well-known diver. He was also a prominent diver on the TV show Mike Nelson, which aired NBC. He was a freelance diver and an ex-Navy frogman. His skills in diving enabled him save everything from a bike to a nuclear weapon. Lloyd Bridges also voice-overnarrated the show.
