The UIUC Ice Arena is home to many ice skating opportunities. The synchronized skate team of the UIUC is nationally ranked. They have had performers compete at the international and national level. Tickets to the UIUC's spring show are $5 for general seating and $7 if you reserve seating.

University of Illinois Ice Arena

Champaign's University of Illinois Ice Arena (also known as The Big Pond) is an ice skating rink. It is owned the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The rink hosts a number of events, including hockey.

Opportunities for skating

The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has an ice arena that is open to the public. You can host a group event at the rink by following these steps. First, you must make a reservation. This can be done at the Illini Union RSO Office (Room 284). You will need to provide a list of participants when you reserve ice time. A supervisor must be present at the rink during your rental period to answer any questions.

Center Ice Cafe

The University of Illinois Ice Arena Center Ice Cafe is now open to the general public. The cafe is located adjacent to the Customer Service Office and offers food as well as beverages. You can also find an Ice Arena Pro Shop that stocks many skating and hockey accessories.


Free skate trainers

Champaign, Illinois is home to The University of Illinois Ice Arena. It is managed by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The ice arena remains open throughout the year to all members of the public at no charge. This rink is open to the public for figure and skateboarding.

Spring Show

The UIUC Ice Arena Spring Show is quickly approaching. This event will feature performances by local skaters along with a nationally-ranked, synchronized skating team. Many of these competitors have competed at national and global levels. Tickets for the event are $5 for general seating and $7 if you reserve seating.

Gas leak at UI Ice Arena

An Illini-Alert has been issued by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign following a gas leak at their ice arena. The building was evacuated at 406 E. Armory Ave. after Ameren Illinois crews discovered a leak. Firefighters blocked a sideway to the arena to prevent further contamination. It is believed the leak came from underneath the building.
