What is an Aqua Lung and how does it work?

What is an AquaLung? The Aqua-Lung is an open circuit, self-contained breathing device. Aqua-Lungs, one of the earliest types of self-contained breathing apparatuses, quickly became popular and commercially successful. This equipment is commonly known as a twin hose diving regulator or demand valve. Emile Gagnan, Jacques Cousteau, and Emile Gaugnan were among the first to use aqualungs. They became a huge hit in the diving community.

Jacques Cousteau

Jacques Cousteau was the inventor of the first open-circuit self-contained underwater breathing device. His design was built on a demand valve that provided compressed air to divers for underwater breathing. The Aqua lung, also known as the Aqua-Lung, opened the doors to diving for anyone who wanted to learn more about the sport. Aqua-Lung by Cousteau became the standard for divers around the world.

Emile Gagnan

Emile Gagnan, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and Emile Gaunin invented the Aqua Lung in 1940. The Aqua Lung's unique design is a result of the designs of earlier diving helmets from the 19th century. It allows underwater divers to inhale through a mouthpiece that releases compressed gas activated from their breath. Gagnan refined the regulator valve that feeds compressed oxygen to the diver's mouthpiece. This is proportional to how much diver breathes. This device was a significant breakthrough in the diving world, allowing people to explore depths of ocean for scientific observation, military and recreational use.

The first open-circuit demand controller

The Aqua-Lung was developed by Cousteau in 1944. It was patented in 1946. The Aqua-Lung was a well-known scuba regulator since then. Gagnan (cousteau's father in law) and Emile Gagnan (a French chemist), were also part of this team. They all knew Cousteau’s research and decided that they would collaborate to create Aqua-Lung regulator.

The BC1

The BC1 Aqua Lung can be used to inflate backs for advanced commercial, military, public safety, and other divers. With its rugged design, it offers superior comfort, fit, and stability. The user manual includes details about the weights that can be inserted into each pouch. The BC1 comes in two weight capacities: one for your chest and the other for your back. Different weight pouches can be used to customize the BC1 for individual needs.

The Titan

Aqua Lung Titan, a portable and lightweight regulator, integrates many of the same features as previous generations. Its lightweight design makes it very comfortable to use. Additionally, the soft polyurethane shell provides a comfortable fit. Its lightweight and strong design makes it easy to use during extended dives. It is affordable because of its moderate price. The device comes with two stages, including a second stage that prevents unwanted freeflow.

The Mentor

Aqua lung Mentor is a regulator created in collaboration with USA Navy. This regulator replaces the older double-hosed regulators that are used to teach divers how to rebreather. Although the Aqua lung isn't yet available for general sale, it is a great option for professional divers who want an alternative to the double-hose regulators. Here are some points to consider when purchasing the Aqualung Mentor. Before you buy the Aqua lung Mentor, make sure that it is calibrated.
